Nancy Woodward and her paintings
The last picture I painted of The Pied Piper - This was done in watercolour, at the request of my granddaughter. She used to want me to tell her all the old fairy stories and legends over and over. She now has a daughter of her own, and I thought this story would make a colourful picture for the nursery. My granddaughter could then explain the dramatic event (of the Pied Piper enticing away all the children of the village ).
The larger picture - of the people swimming in the water - was done in oils. I was inspired to paint this , when a passage in Dante`s "Divine Comedy" caught my eye. It said " All ratchets which severally operate toward the living God , has dredged me from a sea of wrongful love and placed me on the shore "
It was such an explicit explanation of his doomed love for Beatrice.
The picture of Kate Winslet was done in oils, and taken from a news paper article about her role in Jane Austins "Sense and Sensibility" Actresses have much more character in their faces than possibly more beautiful but expression- less models.
The other picture of the Canada Geese was done in oils. We had been looking around galleries in Toronto, and this seemed an unusual and popular way of presenting these, their native birds. (But I'm not keen on this one it's not really my style, not colourful enough.)
